Director Morgan O’Neill to fly in for the first recce next month

We head back out to Winton for another recce in December, this time with Aussie director MORGAN O’NEILL who is coming over from Los Angeles where he now resides. December is a hot month in outback Western Queensland, but we’ll manage if we’re in for some beautiful shots like these (below).  We took this one earlier in the year, so we’re in store for some drier landscapes now. We will be spending December discussing Production Design. It will be the month we finalise where we’re shooting what. We look forward...

EMERGING WITH A NEW TITLE: WALTZING MATILDA

EMERGING WITH A NEW TITLE: WALTZING MATILDA

We have decided to change the name of BANJO & MATILDA, to WALTZING MATILDA. The film is fundamentally about the writing of that song and deserves to be known as that. We have begun offering the role to leading male actors who we believe can help us drive the movie to an international audience. We fully believe that a film of this scale -with a 12 million dollar budget – requires an A-list marquee name to ‘drive it’ to the market. Bill has just returned from visiting film sales agents in Hollywood, NYC and London in the last...

Extract from Waltzing Matilda Documentary

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the song, in 1995,  Bill co-produced this TV doco, in search of the real story behind Australia’s favourite song. It was surprising to discover just how popular the song was around the world, especially in France where it has special significance. Have a look at this extract from his Waltzing Matilda Documentary (click here)

Morgan O’Neill to direct Banjo & Matilda

The development stage of the feature film making business for a producer means undertaking a series of meetings. Meetings with distributors, meetings with financiers and meetings with potential suitors for the crew. For the past few months, Banjo & Matilda had been focussed on hunting down the perfect director that could capably bring life and ferocity to a big story yet still have the tenacity to take on a big budget production, and that certainly is never a small task. It is so important to find the right chemistry between director,...

Singapore Sunset: Roland Joffe and Asia

Bill has built a strong team to keep this SINGAPORE SUNSET dream alive.  Roland Joffe has agreed to direct this $40+ million WW2 epic, he has brought on board a strong support group of Hollywood players – his agent Jeff Berg, his manager Craig Baumgarten and the man who know’s more about East-Meets-West film production than most, Andre Morgan. Together they are building a reputation for the project and creating a thirst for equity investment and presales. Jeff Berg, has created his new talent agency RESOLUTION with Roland as...

Hollywood in the outback

Bill and co Producer Mandaley Perkins are working with screen writer David Roach to get the right balance between History and Hollywood. While the film has to have all the excitement of an action Western, it cannot destroy the legend of this Banjo Paterson and the song he wrote, which has become an Australian Treasure and an international favourite. Also still difficult to get right is the love triangle between Banjo and the two women in his life at the time of writing the song in Outback Queensland in 1895. This needs such a delicate...
